This is a review for pharmacists summarising the use of Synthroid® (levothyroxine) for the treatment of hypothyroidism. Synthroid® is fully funded and available in three tablet strengths (25, 50 and 100 mcg). Bodyweight dosing of levothyroxine to the nearest 25 mcg is recommended and Synthroid® is the only brand with with three strengths of colour-coded tablets, including a 25 mcg tablet, that are both Medsafe-approved and Pharmac-funded.
